MILLWRIGHT Fund for Industry Revitalization, Safety and Training

Established to further advance the Millwright Industry, MWFIRST is a Labor-Management organization dedicated to further promoting the collaborative working environment for labor and management.

Together, the Union Millwright Leadership and the Contractor Management are increasing employment opportunities for journey-persons and apprentices and the Union Contractors by providing highly skilled and highly motivated craftsmen. UBC Millwrights are highly-trained construction professionals who have exceptional skills to work primarily with machinery and equipment requiring precision setting and adjustment. These skilled workers install, maintain, diagnose, and repair mechanical equipment such as compressors, pumps, conveyors, gas turbines, steam turbines, power plant generators, monorails, and extruders for such industries as the petrochemical, power generation, pulp and paper, automotive etc.

MWFIRST provides training and information that fosters improvements in occupational safety and health, both on the job and off. Also, MWFIRST is highly involved in workforce development to insure that sufficient numbers of highly skilled and highly motivated Millwrights are available to staff the construction work and the service work that is forecasted.

MWFIRST encourages and facilitates free and effective communication between employers and their employees. Additionally, the organization seeks to provide a forum where open and honest research can be initiated to address problems confronting labor and management. Ultimately, the organization’s mission is to maintain the highest standards of craftsmanship, to continue to attract new quality workers to the MW apprenticeship program and to improve work opportunities for UBC Millwrights and signatory contractors by providing outstanding service to the Owner Community.
